AI Fire and Smoke Detection System
Video-based fire and smoke detection lets the camera in a warehouse or production hall flag flames and smoke at an early stage, with the alert reaching the security desk and mobile devices within seconds. ALGI does this on your existing cameras. In high-ceiling warehouses, open workshops and outdoor yards, where a detector has to wait for heat or particles to reach it, video often gives an earlier signal. The system does not replace your legally required fire detection infrastructure; it adds a visual layer on top of it.
What is video-based fire and smoke detection?
Video-based fire and smoke detection is an analytics layer that looks for the visual signature of flames and smoke in the camera stream. Conventional detectors wait for smoke to reach the sensor; the camera assesses changes in its field of view as they happen. The difference is most pronounced in high-ceiling warehouses, open workshops, waste yards and outdoor areas.
The system does not work with one fixed threshold but with zone-based rules. Sparks are expected in an area where welding takes place; the same image in a warehouse aisle is a violation. Each zone gets its own sensitivity setting.
Visual detection complements your existing fire system rather than replacing it. Your legally required detection and suppression infrastructure stays in place, and the camera layer provides early warning and an event record.
That event record matters after the fact as well: each alert keeps the snapshot and the short clip that led to it, so the sequence of events can be reviewed rather than reconstructed from memory. For sites where people are not always present, such as outdoor storage or waste areas, that visual record is often the first clear account of what happened.
How does fire and smoke detection work?
Setup follows three steps.
Define zones and sensitivity. In the dashboard, you draw the areas to be checked over the camera view and set the sensitivity for each. Misleading sources such as a welding station, an exhaust outlet or a steam line are masked to reduce false alarms.
Process the video. The camera stream is processed either on an Algi Edge device installed on site or on ALGI AI servers. With an on-site Algi Edge device, assessment continues during an internet outage, live video stays on your premises and only event records and event snapshots leave the site.
Run the alert chain. When flames or smoke are flagged, an event opens in the dashboard and a mobile notification, email, siren or dry-contact output is triggered at the same time. A snapshot of the event and a short clip from just before it are attached, so the security officer can verify the alarm on screen within seconds.
Records are reported by zone and hour. Recurring sources of false alarms show up in this report, and the masking is updated accordingly, so the alert chain stays trusted by the people who have to respond to it.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a fire and smoke detection system and how does it work?
- The system assesses the flame and smoke signature in camera video. When a non-compliant image appears in a zone you have drawn in the dashboard, it opens an event record, attaches the snapshot and a short clip from just before, and sends the alert to the security desk, a mobile device or a siren output.
- Does fire and smoke detection need extra hardware?
- Not necessarily. Detection runs on your existing IP cameras, with no thermal cameras, additional smoke detectors or gas sensors. Video can be processed on ALGI AI servers, or on an Algi Edge device on site if you want processing to stay on your premises. Your existing fire panel can be connected to this layer through a dry-contact output.
- Are my existing IP cameras compatible?
- Standard IP cameras that provide an RTSP stream are compatible. What matters is how much of the space the camera covers; wide-angle cameras mounted high catch spreading smoke earlier. Night-time operation requires lighting or cameras with IR illumination. Your camera list is reviewed before installation.
- How long does installation take?
- A single facility is set up in one day: camera streams are registered and zones and masks are drawn. The first days run in observation mode; once misleading sources have been identified and masked, the on-site alarm is switched on. Depending on the complexity of the facility, this tuning period can take a few days.
- Is fire and smoke detection compliant with GDPR and KVKK?
- The system looks for flames and smoke. It does not recognize or identify people and keeps no per-person records. With an on-site Algi Edge device, live video stays on your premises and only event records and event snapshots leave the site; with server processing, video is processed on ALGI AI servers. Your existing camera notice obligations remain unchanged.
