Factory Vision and Manufacturing Video Analytics

Factory vision turns the cameras already hanging over your production floor into a source of measurable data. Most plant cameras are installed only to record, yet the same footage can show when a line stopped, which process step was skipped and where a pallet was left. Manufacturing video analytics reads this from your existing shop floor cameras. The output is not a video archive but a countable record: downtime duration and cause, process step compliance and shop floor order violations. Downtime records feed directly into your OEE calculation.

What is factory vision?

Factory vision is the practice of reading the production floor through cameras and turning what they see into measurable data. Rather than looking at a single inspection point, it covers the whole line and the floor around it.

It answers three separate questions. When did the line stop, and for how long? Stoppages are detected from the video and tagged with their cause. Was the operation carried out correctly? The sequence and completion of assembly or packing steps are checked. Is the floor in order? Pallets, materials and equipment left in the wrong area are reported.

The difference from final product inspection is scope. Surface defect detection and label inspection look at a single part; factory vision looks at the process itself. Both run side by side on the same platform and the same camera infrastructure, so a plant can start with one and add the other without a second installation.

Because measurement runs on the cameras you already have, bringing a new station into scope only needs a camera that sees it. There are no line sensors, counters or extra PLC inputs to install.

Measurement looks at the process, not at people. The system does not recognize or identify employees and produces no per-employee metrics.

How does factory vision work on the production floor?

Setup follows three steps.

Zones and rules are defined. In the dashboard, line zones, stations, walkways and material areas are drawn over the camera image. For each zone you choose what to measure: downtime, step compliance or area occupancy.

Video is processed. Video is processed either on an Algi Edge device installed on site or on ALGI AI servers. With an on-site Algi Edge device, live video stays in the plant, analysis continues during internet outages and only counts and event records leave the site. With server processing, video is processed on ALGI AI servers and the dashboard receives the same counts and event records.

Data connects to your existing systems. Downtime records are passed to your MES or OEE dashboard through the API, and shop floor order violations go as notifications to the relevant shift supervisor. Critical situations can be wired to lights and sirens through a dry-contact output.

Records are reported by shift, line and event type. The report shows which station and which hours downtime concentrates in, and the effect of an improvement project is measured by comparing the before and after periods.

Frequently asked questions

What is factory vision and how does it work?
Factory vision turns camera footage from the production floor into measurable data. In the line zones you draw in the dashboard, it flags stoppages, process step compliance and shop floor order violations. The output is event records and duration data, and downtime records become a direct input to your OEE calculation.
Does factory vision need extra hardware?
Not necessarily. Measurement runs on footage from your existing shop floor cameras; no line sensors, counters or extra PLC inputs are needed. Video can be processed on ALGI AI servers, or on an Algi Edge device on site if you want processing to stay on your premises. To bring a new station into measurement, a camera that sees that station is enough.
Are my existing IP cameras compatible?
Standard IP cameras that provide an RTSP stream are compatible. What matters is coverage: cameras mounted high that see the line and the station as a whole are suitable for downtime and area occupancy measurement. If you share your camera layout plan, we work out which stations are covered before installation.
How long does setup take, and when does it go live?
At a single site, setup is completed on the same day: camera streams are defined, the on-site device is connected where one is used, and zones and rules are drawn. The first days run in observation mode. Notifications and MES export are switched on once downtime thresholds and process steps have been validated against real production.
Is factory vision GDPR and KVKK compliant?
Measurement looks at the process and the floor, not at people. The system does not recognize or identify employees and keeps no per-employee records. With an on-site Algi Edge device, live video stays on your premises and only event records and duration data leave the site; with server processing, video is processed on ALGI AI servers. Your existing duty to inform staff about workplace cameras still applies.
